Started as women’s t20 challenge with single match tournament back in 2018, and was later expanded into 3 team and 3 match tournament in the year 2019, 2020 and 2022.

TATA group has bagged the Sponsor rights for the WPL season of 2023 to 2027 . It was confirmed by BCCI
honorary secretary Jay Shah. He further said women’s cricket is achieving new height and we are looking
forward to scale it up having TATA group as a title sponsor. Arun Singh Dhumal chairman of IPL said .
Tournament like WPL will show the good work of BCCI toward great initiative and will boost the Indian
Women’s Team performance like IPL did. There were be a lot of great finds in women’s cricket and many of
them who are struggling financially may get some good amount through WPL .
