Sameer Rizvi Came to limelight when he was bought by Chennai Super Kings for the IPL season 2024 in a whopping amount of 8.40 crore Indian rupees. Which is highest for an Indian uncapped player till date. After this incident all the news surfaced on the internet and Sameer went viral in one night. December auction was a huge success for him which was held in Dubai. Later that day huge amount of fans and relatives celebrated his selection at his home.
Early life and background
Like every Indian kid Sameer had big dreams from childhood to become a cricketer. Luckily his parents moved to Loiya Uttar Pradesh after his birth. Where he used to visit Gandhi Bagh Maidan in meerut to see local cricketers playing cricket.
From there on his interest immerged more and he started taking cricket seriously under the supervision eyes of his maternal uncle Tankeeb Akhtar who was also a cricketer back in his days.
He got unwavering support from his family even in hard times and Sameer did justice with their trust by showing great commitment to the game from tender age.
Sameer's Career
Rizvi started his professional career at early age and got call-up to play for the senior state team at the age of 16. It was Sameer’s consistent performance in the domestic state matches at every level u14, u16, u19 and u23 to grab selectors eyes. He made his first-class debut on January 27, 2020. And List A debut on Dec 11, 2021.
It was the UPT20 league where he came into limelight first for his hard hitting abilities and six hitting abilities with ease playing for Kanpur Superstars. He captained the team too where he smashed 3 centuries for his team and added 455 runs in 9 innings at a decent average. This was enough to make the headline in domestic and between IPL scouts .
Sameer said in an interview with veteran cricketer and former captain Suresh Rain that he got call from all the IPL franchise but he only went for 3 teams RCB, Punjab and Mumbai. He could not attend all the teams trials just because he had u23 state matches.
His hopes were high of getting picked but he never imagined he will go for this much amount 40 times approx his base price. It was a dream come true moment for him he added.
Sameer has also represented Indian u19 team in 2019 where likes of Yashashwi Jaiswal and Dhruv Chand Jurel were his teammates. He represented India B in challenger trophy.

Sameer is a hard-hitting batsman who believe in hitting sixes with ease .He’s got natural abilities to throw the ball out of the ground. His favourite shot is lofted drives and flicks. He believes in playing according to the merit of the ball without throwing his wicket. He remains calm at the crease always which makes him apart. Sameer is a handy off spinner too which adds value to his ability. He has grown up watching Suresh Raina a great fielder and former Indian cricketer in Gandhibag maidan more often than not from where he learnt the art of fielding. He loves fielding in the ground and creates great atmosphere all around the ground.

Sameer made his IPL debut on 22 march 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL opener. He didn’t get chance to bat as his team won the match easily chasing 174. During handshake after match with Virat Kohli he put off his hat in respect which went viral on the internet, and he was appreciated for his nice etiquettes.
